"The mainland lives by three rules: never stray from the road, leave a nightly thimble of beer in your cellar, and put an iron nail in your infant's crib. Lest she's replaced with a Changeling."
Being a druid is so boring. All Maeve does is talk to magic tentacles, herd penguins, and trade snickersees with selkies. There's no adventure in being a druid, just plain old dreary feeding fey, like her clurichaun friend, Baird. That’s why, when the unconscious knight Sir Stefan is dumped on her doorstep, Maeve jumps at a chance to guide him home. Finally, she can leave the isles of Myths and Legends to become a knight errant and explore the Mainland with its iron encrusted strangers. How barbaric!
But adventure comes with a price. A banshee attacks Maeve and Stefan when they cross the exposed sea floor and infects the knight with a fey-killing parasite. Concerned for his health and his beard, Maeve follows knightly honor and Sir Stefan to his final joust before his dreaded wedding. The two cross paths with pirates, parrots, and people who hate druids more than murderers. The further they travel, the harder her choice becomes: to stay and save Stefan's life at risk to her own, or return home and leave Stefan's fate to chance. What would a knight do?
A coming of age fantasy with romantic and comedic elements. It features scenes of adventure, intrigue, and wonder, and, above all, is a story about an outcast finding her place. Oh, and magic. Don’t forget about magic!
